XP: Home warranty question

Hi there - we have a home warranty and our air conditioner, which is 35 years old, finally died. I really want the air conditioner replaced - our electric bills are ridiculously expensive because our unit is so inefficient. Has anyone on her had a big claim like this against their home warranty? I am curious as to the kind of run around they are going to give me about replacing the unit AND how much I am going to be out of pocket when it is all said and done.

Thanks!

Re: XP: Home warranty question

  • We made a claim for our 20 year old a/c when it stopped working and the home warranty company sent a repairman. He was able to repair it so that's what happened - we didn't have a choice to replace it. We paid a $75 deductible for the repair.

Good luck, hope you get a new unit!

  • You really don't want to hear the answer from me lol.  I think home warranties are total scams.  They refuse to pay way more often than they pay.  They're an insurance company - they will always, always do whatever's cheapest for them, like OP's $75 repair.

Try googling home warranty site:thenest.com and you'll a bunch of relevant discussions.
