So the ex and I separated and divorced back in 2010. We did a simple divorce (no lawyers, no court, etc.). On our divorce papers we listed the things that would go to me and the things that would go to him. I got my car. BUT, I never got a copy of the divorce papers since he filed them after I left him.
Flash forward to this last weekend. I decided I wanted to trade in my car for something else, so I go to the dealership and drive off the lot with my new (to me) car! But then they called me a few days later saying they were having issues getting the title out of my name because they needed my ex-husband's signature since he was still on the title. I sent them a copy of my divorce finalization papers, but they said they need the form that shows that I was awarded the car in the divorce with his signature. If I don't have that, I need to have him sign the papers handing over the title to the dealership.
Only problem, he won't reply to my calls, my texts, or my emails. I have no idea where he lives, either. I cannot figure out a way to get these forms or get his signature.
Does anyone know what else I can do where I do NOT have to talk to him or involve him in any way? He's well out of my life and I'd prefer it to stay that way.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.
Re: So, So Annoyed, Need Advice!
Yeah, the big problem is that I live about 6 states away from the county the divorce was filed in.
Luckily he replied back and said he had a copy he would fax them. Phew!

Good to hear! Hopefully, he did fax you a copy. Just so you know, you may be required to have it stamped and signed by the court, and NEVER unstapled for it to be considered legal. Because of this, you may have to call the court and ask for a certified copy to be mailed to you. I have the one decree that my divorce attorney gave me and 2nd legal copy just in case. I have had to use the decree to do EVERYTHING - bank stuff, car stuff, passports, name change, titles, the kids' stuff. It's a bit obnoxious but the decree has become nearly as important as my Bible which sounds weird but I can't do anything without it. I wish you the best!!!
