book recs for 2-year olds

Oliver still loves his board books but I was wondering if you have any recommendations for other books --- he is starting to get interested in longer stories (by longer, I mean more than like 3-5 pages and with more than a sentence on each page).

We have all of the popular books like Good Night Moon, the Sandra Boynton books, I love you stinky face, Dr. Seuss, etc. Just wanted to see what else your 2 (or even 3) year olds are liking these days...

Re: book recs for 2-year olds

  • My son loves books... He is 21 months... His favorites are Where the wild things are,  If You Give a Mouse a cookie (anything from that series), If you give a Pig a pancake, Splat the Cat  (these are longer and he particularly likes the valentine one) Any Yo Gabba Gabba book. Rainbow fish (this is longer) I love you stinky face, the little Blue truck, the snowbelly family.... The david series. Anything eric carle. Most of my leftovers from teaching  pre-k/kindergarten.

  • I just ordered Brooks a bunch of stories that are still board books. Madeline, Curious George and Winnie the Pooh are his favorites. He's like Oliver, he wants a story. He also is gagga about anything bicycle or car related. He's really funny, so I found books about those that have stories and he thinks they are the bees knees.

I can't remember where you are, but if you check out the Towne Center bookstore in Collegeville (Wegman's shopping center) they have a great selection and knowledgeable staff. Then they ordered everything that I wanted that they didn't carry.

  • These are all great suggestions...I'm making a list!

mzovoce: We live in Ardmore but I'm often up near Collegeville b/c DH plays cricket at Evansburg State Park. I'm often looking for things to do while his games are going on (they can be 6-7 hours...haha), so maybe I'll check out that bookstore next time.
