Hey guys! I need some suggestions on my small dark kitchen.
Currently, I have a mall square kitchen with medium oak cabinets. We do have one window, but there is not much sunlight coming in as it looks out to our covered porch. There is not much lighting in the room at all. Right now there is a chair rail with wallpaper on top and dark brown paint on the bottom.
I am removing the wallpaper as we speak and plan to get rid of the dark brown paint. I really need to brighten it up in there. Although I would LOVE to have white cabinets, they are fairly new and I just can't bring myself to paint them. I plan on doing a light khaki on the walls with a light colored backsplash.
My question is....should I leave the chair rail or get rid of it. Do you think it will help or hurt the size of the room? If I leave it, should I do two different colors (top and bottom) or just one? Or maybe I should do white beadboard on the bottom?
Here is what it looks like:
Re: To chair rail or not to chair rail?
i don't think it will hurt the look of the size of the room to leave it while you remove all the wall paper and paint everything. you could go really subtle w/a only a step darker shade below the chair rail, especially if you go with a really light color above. that said, i have seen the same color on top/bottom before and that looks fine, too.
