That poor little doggie...:( (may be tmi so beware)

Yesterday about 6:30 I was coming down a side street of a small city about 10 minutes from here and in the distance, I can see a woman standing in the middle of the street.

She was holding her dog and in the street was a yorkie that was hit by a vehicle.

I said "is that your dog?"

She said no.

The dog was in bad shape --- he was barely breathing.

She said the cops were called --- a man that was there said he saw the dog standing accross the street, the dog made it about halfway over and a car hit the dog. He said the car kept going; nobody could stop the guy or get a plate.

There was a lot of blood. I was pretty stunned; there were vehicles that just steered around the poor little dog and kept going; nobody stopped to ask teh woman if she needed the cops or anything else.

My vet was closed; he was about 10 minutes from there, 5 if I stepped on it -- and the vet that was around the conrer from there was also closed for the day.

There is an emergency vet but it's about a half hour from here.

I can't stop thinking about that dog -- I left and I saw a cop with flasher on; maybe he was on his way to the scene.

In this state you can get into as much trouble for hitting an animal and leaving the scene -- maybe the guy didn't see the dog enter the path of his vehicle or even know he hit the poor dog. I don't know. And maybe the poor dog got out of the house  unbeknownst to the owner (they said the dog had a collar and tag) and took off out the door or a doggie door; who knows?

I see dogs running loose on that block all the time. And I also see a "DOG LOST" poster posted on the telephone poles on that street, too often.:(
