DIY Bathroom
A question from a newbie:
I'm wondering if any DIYers here have put a below grade bathroom into their home. My husband and I are considering adding a bathroom at the back of our large laundry room. We've been researching methods, materials, and cost, but I'm sure we still don't know what we're getting ourselves into. We're looking at a 5'x8' full bath with a Saniflo system.
Has anybody done this that might be able to share details or advice?

I installed one in the basement of my first house. Worked great. It was easy to install and held up pretty well. I think I used the SaniPro. There is a unit that has all stainless steel guts, the SaniBest I believe. Apparently, it's better at accidental flushings of q-tips, "sanitary pads" and other stuff. We plumbed a shower and a sink into it as well. It's definitely do-able for your experienced DIYer, but consult a plumber if you've never done that kind of work.
My advice: design the room layout so it's easy to clean it and do maintenance on it if you ever need to... i.e., don't cram it into a corner or whatever. OR you can put the actual ejector unit behind the wall so you don't even see it, but again, make sure you have access to it.
