Can anyone recommend a basic moderately priced watch. I would like it to be able to track the distance traveled (pedometer), a count down timer (so I can sprint for 2 minutes and then an alarm signals once the 2 minutes are up) and stores the times of the past few runs so I can compare my progress.
Re: Running Watch
I have a Garmin GPS watch, I think its the 405. It was under $200 on Amazon, and comes with a heart rate monitor (which I dont use). You can set up training programs on the Garmin site to do exactly what you're suggesting above, and download all your runs/walks/hikes/bikes/whatever exercise you do outside to the Garmin website and track it forever. For treadmill running, you can get a foot pod that is a glorified pedometer to automatically track your progress, or you can enter workouts into the site manually (which is what I do).
There are cheaper Garmin watches available that do the same stuff. I got one that's waterproof so I can use it while canoeing/kayaking and skiing. There are also other brands that are more/less expensive, but I don't have any experience with those. I half bought my watch based on the features available on the watch, and half because Garmin's tracking website is fantastic.
If you're talking about running/walking on a treadmill exclusively, you can get the Nike plus foot pod that connects to your iPhone/iPod. However, I hate their site for tracking.
Hope this helps!
