Will Ikea Hemnes dresser hold weight of t.v.?

We're thinking of getting the Ikea Hemnes 8-drawer dresser for our bedroom. We have an older t.v. (not a flat screen) that works well so we don't want to replace it, but it's heavier than a flat screen t.v. We'll need to put it on top of the dresser.

If you have this dresser, could you tell me if you think it will hold the t.v.? Or is the dresser too flimsy? The t.v. is about a 20-incher, if that helps.

 Thanks!

  • I think it would be fine as long as you can lift the TV by yourself (if it's a two person lift job then I'm not as certain).

We have the smaller Hemnes dresser and I use it as much changing table and have put pretty heavy stuff on top. It's solid wood, not particle board...

I tend to agree with this assessment.

  • No problems or complaints here with mine.

  • Thanks everyone! One more question-- I love the look and size of the Hemnes, but the only thing that makes me worry is the bottom of the drawers. They felt a little flimsy in the store. Any problems with those?
  • Mine are holding up so far. DH had to re-nail one of his that he had overloaded with all his jeans and pants.  It exceeded the recommended weight limit by a lot.  All of my drawers are probably beyond the recommended weights, but they are holding up just fine!

  • I don't know what the weight limit is but I've been jamming them full for almost 3 years and so far so good :)  My heaviest drawer is full of linens so not lightweight!

  • Thanks everybody! I think we're going to go for it. Can't beat the style or the price.
  • We added a bit of gorilla glue to the slots that the drawer bottoms slide into just to give a little added oomph and we've had no issues.
