Help my poor living room

I need some creative eyes. This wood stove right in the middle of the wall is killing me! I would like to remove it but since that isn't an option, I need ideas on how to arrange/decorate around it. Anyone??

I have move the couches and tv all the time trying to make it look right. Never have had motivation to get stuff up on the walls = (

These are a couple of my lame attempts at it....

  • You're on the right track!

You know how you've posted 3 attempts?  Take your first attempt but then add substantial bookcases running the length of the wall the stove's on.  The reason your previous attempt didn't work is because the bookcases you have right now are too scrawny and can't balance the visual weight of the stove.  Big heavy bookcases can.

  • Definitely agree that the bookcases are the direction to go!

  • Ok, so hefty bookcases. But then I'm stuck with the tv. Put that on the other wall by itself? Maybe on a different base and big photos on the wall?

Generally you will want a single focal point in your room.    Most people put the television adjacent to the wood stove or fireplace.  My SIL had shelving built on the wood stove wall.  She and the carpenter designed the shelving to hold a tv on the left side and a built in computer desk on the right side with open shelving above and closed shelving below.  The open shelving is decorated with vases and plants while the closed shelving hides the Wii, the computer pieces and the kids games.
  • Maybe it's time for a thinner tv so I can fit it in with the shelving! ; )

    Thanks everyone!
