oops! need cooking help!

I don't know what happened....I spent a long while simmering a yummy pasta sauce then I threw the meat into it without browning first! I know what happened, baby woke up from naptime and I lost a few brain cells.

Anyway, ,now I have this big pot of stuff that looks like chili, but the meat isn't cooked. I've always browned meat before adding to sauce (I cook sauce first & take some out for meatless). How long does it need to cook to make sure the meat is done? I did a combo of ground turkey and pork.

Re: oops! need cooking help!

  • Oh I've had that wonderful brain-fart happen before =p  The best advice I can give you is try and take as much of the meat out as possible and go ahead and brown it.  Afterwards, heat the rest of the food to 160 degrees or higher.  That should be able to kill off any other bacteria left from the uncooked meat.
