Hydration

This sounds so dumb... but.  I'm originally from the East Coast (humidity galore!) and we moved to Colorado at the very end of 2010.  My biggest problem is staying properly hydrated.  I know, of course, that I need to be drinking lots of water to combat the dryness (which I do) but does anyone have any tips for keeping my lips and skin from getting dry/chapped/flaky?

I actually have oily skin to begin with, so I'm at a loss at my dry and cracked elbows and random patches of dry skin.  And keeping my lips from chapping is a nightmare.  I've tried Blistex, Carmex and Vaseline.  Even Neosporin.  But, still, dry, cracked lips.

Any suggestions?  Other than more water, because I might float away if I drink anymore of that:D

TIA!

Re: Hydration

  • I had the same thing happen the first year I moved here.  Drinking lots of water does help.  I used baby oil (although some salt scrubs are better and easier... less greasy... to use in the shower).  My skin was oily before I moved here but I still had to use face lotion to help battle the dryness.  Of course, I used lotion all over, too.

Not sure what to tell you about your lips.  Carmex worked for me.  Hope using face lotion helps, too!

  • Be sure to put on lotion when you get out of the shower. I like Aveda but have been using Arbonne that my mom gave me for Christmas and I like that too. My favorite lip balm right now is EOS. They're $3 at Target and I think they're very moisturizing. I've heard Keihls is the best, but I haven't tried it yet. For water, I find it much easier to drink out of a tumbler rather than a water bottle. I drink far more water that way. The dryness here can really suck.  :-(

  • I am from the Midwest and have the same issue.  Make sure you buy chapstick with SPF in it. I have never had burnt lips till I moved out here and holy batman that hurt.

I use Vaseline on my lips at night. My H is sensitive to the dryness too so we run our humidifier in our apt every other day at night.

  • I'm from Florida. With moisture and humidity... ha. None of that here. Drink LOTS of water, of course. And I have learned to have a supply of chapstick for my lips. I also use extra hydrating lotion for my dry skin. My feet have taken a beating from living here. I just use an awesome pumice stone. GL!
