Hi all - as a treat for finishing our kitchen (still a few weeks out yet), DH and I are going to get a tablet. I am finding that I am doing online searches for recipes more and more and it is getting tough to read off my phone's screen or print everything off to use in the kitchen while I'm making dinner.
I am one of the rare people these days (at least it seems that way) that actually enjoys holding a book when reading so the e-reader aspect of a Nook or Kindle isn't necessarily a selling point.
I also have a perfectly good PC that runs fine and does everything that I need save for being in the kitchen while I'm cooking so the iPad isn't necessarily pulling ahead due simply to the cost of it.
Since those seem to be the only viable options that aren't going away, we have to pick one of them. Do you have one (or two?)? What do you think of it? Any insights for a tablet newbie?
Re: Kindle, Nook or iPad
I couldn't tell you much about the Nook or the iPad, but I bought a Kindle Fire a couple months ago and LOVE it. I mostly use it for reading and, like you said, recipes in the kitchen. Like you, I thought I preferred reading with actual books, but more and more, I find myself drawn to the kindle--it's just lighter and easier. The display is lovely and it runs a lot faster than a phone does and sometimes even my laptop.
The only thing I don't like is that its browser runs exclusively on wi-fi, not 3G. I wish I could use it to browse/watch videos at the gym, but can't since there's no wi-fi at the gym. At least I'm getting my reading done on the elliptical
