Gotta lose some weight before I can pregnant.....

and I'm having a hard time finding the right "diet". I need some suggestions. I'm a very picky eater so you wouldn't think that I'd be as big as I am. But, I just can't keep weight off. I am pretty sure that is what's holding me back from getting pregnant.

Have you gone thru this? What worked for you?

Re: Gotta lose some weight before I can pregnant.....

  • Weight Watchers, and make sure to go to the meetings. Its easy to follow, they give you a lot of tools, and the motivation to be down in weight every week is huge.

  • I have found that viewing a change in eating habits as a "diet" is always a failure for me...I have to look at it as a new way of life....My husband and I did South Beach last year, he had better success than I did because I found that my problem was more about how much I was eating rather than what I was eating.  It did help us revamp our diet to eating more natural and whole foods and less processed stuff, just healthier in general...but what worked for me the most was counting calories and keeping a food journal, so I knew exactly how much I was eating...for some reason writing everything down really helped, made me more accountable for what I was eating and when I wanted that extra snack at night I could see if I really needed it or not.  But it was nice because I could still eat what I wanted, just had to watch how much of it I ate.  Something like Weight Watchers might be a good option too.  I hate that we have to struggle with weight so much!  Good luck!

    Ditto.

I use SparkPeople to keep track of what I eat and make sure I'm burning ~1000 calories/week with exercise.  I've also heard the Daily Plate offers a "food journal".  A lot of people like WW - just wasn't for me (if I'm going to keep track and calculate, it made more sense for me personally to just track the info instead of then transfer that to points.)

Losing weight is such an individual thing, but if you look at it as a diet, you're more likely to lose it, put it on, struggle again, lose some, struggle, put it on, etc.  Try to find what works for you as far as healthy eating and activity level.

Whatever you try, it may take a while. Don't be one of those people who does something for a day or two and then quits and claims it doesn't work.  (We have a couple we're friends with who changes diet every other day.)  Stick with it at least a week, preferably more like 6-8 weeks before you make a judgement.

  • I use Weight Watchers and It's working great for me I can eat what I want to an extent and I love the meetings they are so supportive and it's great having a a network of people.
  • weight watchers, but you have to hold yourself accountable and be strict with yourself.  It is the only thing that has worked for me to lose weight.
  • I lost 40 lbs with NutriSystem, and I'm an incredibly picky eater. Lost 10 lbs in the first week so it was easy to stick with. I'm not on it anymore, but it took 4 months to drop 35 lbs. After losing 10 lbs I got into exercising and the rest of the weight came off relatively easy. No "diet" works for everyone- you have to try some things and decide if you can chop/ cut portion your meals and stick with that, or not. I couldn't do Weight Watchers/ Jenny Craig etc because I'm not a huge fan of veggies and I knew I wouldn't commit to chopping veggies and measuring everything. So, look through carefully what you need to do for every "diet" or rather way of life and see what you can do. On my own now, I am still losing weight though slower, but who cares, I still eat dessert, etc and I'm not gaining weight. Good luck to you!
  • Working out a ton is all that works for me. I just started WW so I pray it works this time since I'm actually following it. I did Nutrisystem and freaking hated it. I lost the weight I wanted to lose but the foods had such a disgusting taste I couldn't handle it after awhile.(Pizza and chicken salad was good but all the stews and tv dinners had this sick smell to them) I also added up the calories while on Nutrisystem and figured out why it worked. I was eating 1000 calories most days. Of course eating 1000 calories while working out is going to help with weight loss. ..

  • I will agree that lots of the NS food is not for me- but oddly many other people liked the stuff that I couldnt bear to eat. I did usually eat 1300 calories- 1210 at the low so yes, calorie limitations do make you lose weight.
  • Be careful, though.. if you don't give yourself ENOUGH calories, your body will go into starvation mode and you won't lose.
