Talk to me about WW online...

I am tempted to sign up. I know people who have had success with Weight Watchers in the past, but they attended meetings and did weigh-ins, etc. I'd like to do the online version but would love some feedback. Mostly, is it user friendly? Will I be overwhelmed or is it easy to understand?

Also, how does your daily allowance of "points" get determined? I'm assuming this happens when you sign up, but I just don't know much about it. It's a commitment, and it's pricey so if I sign up, I'm IN. I want to be prepared before I do. Thoughts anyone? Thanks. :)

I can't comment on ww because I've never used it but have you ever used myfitnesspal.com? I see people saying they quit ww after joining my fitness pal because it's free. It's just a calorie counter but there are recipes and forums with people to conmect with. It's not about points necessarily but tracking points and tracking calories seem to be the same thing. It's a personal preference I guess but you can always check it out before you pay ww. You can also create your own meals it will save with the nutrition so you can quickly just log it and go. Anyway good luck!
  • I second fitness pal. I've been using it and it is really user friendly and has kept me in track.

  • I do not know the WW system in general. But I do know if many people who have used it online and have had success. The people I know who go in person have said they have no self control and no self pressure to do it on their own and know they wouldn't be successful unless they had someone holding them accountable.

I believe it is also cheaper online.

  • I have been doing WW . I have had success at a slow rate but am happy. I have lost 16 pounds. It has helped me take off my baby weight. I did it before I was pregnant too. I think the online etools is helpful but I don't love it. I go on there mostly for recipes. I also don't have a smartphone. I am sure people that do prob. go on it often. I attend the weekly meetings almost faithfully. I do agree with the theory that you really need to go to the meetings to stay motivated. I personally couldnt do it on my own and I think many people have difficulty with that also. If you are paying for WW online that includes your weekly weigh-ins and meetings so it makes sense to go. They determine your pts. based on a few things including age, height, your current lifestyle, etc. Personally, I think it is the best program out there. You could always try it out. There is no long term commitment. Good luck!

Do you need to have a smartphone for this? Specifically an Iphone?

No you don't need a smartphone. It's just a website, but if you have a smartphone just get the app.

  • Thanks for all the feedback. Yes, I have myfitnesspal and while I do like it, I'm just not good at doing it faithfully. I'd track for a few days, then forget. I think because I'd have to pay for the WW, it would make me actually use it. I'm also a runner, but because of injuries, surgeries,  and the god awful Florida heat, it's been few and far between for running days. I'm still doing it....but not enough at this point. I think I will give WW a try!

  • I did WW last year for almost eight months- online only.  It was very, very good for me.  Taught me portion control.  I eventually quit because I preferred to count calories and I was looking to save some money.  I went to my fitness pal and have been doing that ever since.  My weight loss journey has been about 18 mos and I've lost almost 80 lbs.  WW was a big help!
  • I'm a lifetime WW member (maintained my goal, which I reached almost a year ago). The program worked really well for me and family members. My SIL has been doing online only and has been motivated enough to do it herself. I haven't heard any complaints about the site's user-friendliness from her. They do have a 1-800 number and email for questions.

I did meetings w/ etools. I liked the etools b/c I'm ALWAYS on my computer and it was easy for me to plug things in. It's also easy to search for foods and calculate points through the website/app. They also now have an app which allows you to scan barcodes to find out points. Easy for grocery shopping! The recipes are also nice to have. I did like going to meetings and feeling like I was accountable to someone. Also leaders and/or members often have helpful tips.

If you have a meeting near you I believe you can go for free your first time. Either way, I would say try it out for a month or two and see how you like it. I love the program :) GL!

I've been doing WW online since January.  I've lost about 20 lbs so far.  I prefer counting points to calories.  Counting calories makes me anxious and fearful of every bite I put in my mouth.  Counting points is better for me.  I want to eat.  I like food.  I'm not ashamed of that.  It fits me better.

I just started running tonight so I'm hoping that will help me with the next phase of my weight loss.

  • i joined mid february and it has done wonders for me. what i like about it is that i can use the online app (on my iphone) and the barcode scanner which makes grocery shopping a snap if i want thigns that aren't in their directory.

i also love to cook so i've put a ton of my fave recipies in the online calculator and figure out the points for my own stuff which is great.

it's funny, over time it seems my portion sizes went way out of whack, and it helped me, more than anything, reel them back into the correct size.

and i'm 22 lbs lighter. that's not just from WW-but a combo of that and exercise.  and i dont follow WW every day-some days i blow through it, but for me i have to teach myself a balance. i will not just have veggies and soup all day and every day because that's not feasable for me. i like to eat and i like to go out to eat-so ive had to find a good balance. and it's worked.
