Dog acting lethargic and not jumping as much

Any furbaby mamas have dogs with a long back? We have a dashaund mix and he is acting strange. He is lethargic and isn't really jumping and kinda just acting really gingerly over all. Normally he is very active. He is eating and drinking fine, stools fine - google seems to point to a back problem. Of course I'm sick over this. We are gonna have him seen by the vet tomorrow, but can anyone offer any advice? TIA

Re: Dog acting lethargic and not jumping as much

  • Probably a back injury if nothing else is bothering him. It is very common in dachshunds. Not jumping as much should be a good thing for him (since that's how they get back problems to begin with). That's probably what happened. The vet will be able to tell you more, but don't let him jump!

  • the best thing you can do is to keep your pup quite and try to prevent jumping. if it is a back injury it can only make it worse. just from your description if it is a back issue cage rest and meds can be all you need to control the issue but if something happens and it does get worse could mean surgery. now it may not be a back from your description it could be a variety of things so it is good you are going to see a vet. just watch for any progression of symptoms today.
