New here & working on a home

Hi everyone,

I am newish here. I kind of started looking around here when I was on "the knot" and getting ready to get married (3+ yrs ago). Well homes just didn't work out for us back then and we have been living with my parents in an in-lawish area in their home (works out since I'm an only child).

After a few years saving, which unfortunately isn't too much, and getting my credit back in order we are ready to purchase our first home.We have our pre-approval in hand and know really what we want and where we want to move to. We really want to get out on our own so we can start our family and really living life as a married couple.

We actually already made attempt at purchasing a home. After all was said and done: offer was accepted, the mortgage was ready, down payment was made, and home inspection made...the appraisal of the home wasn't coming through at the right amount. The home was being appraised for almost $20,000 less than what we offered and the seller was not going to budge at all.

So we are on our second attempt. We have a verbal agreement on a home. I'm glad the first one fell thru because this home is much nicer and definitely worth the money!!

Anyways I hope to gain a lot of useful information around here and sorry for the long story!

  • I'm new and searching for a home as well, it's so exciting yet frustrating. Good Luck and Congratulations on your pre-approval! I know what a struggle it could be. Before H and I were married we tried looking and discovered issues with his credit. So it took us almost 2 years to fix his credit, save and finally get the pre-approval.

  • I know this may sound weird, but having our first contract fall through was the best thing that ever happened to us during our house hunt. We pulled out based on the inspection results, and it really proved to us that a) we did have the ballz to make the hard decision, and b) there will always be another house to love. The right house and deal will come along, and everything will just fall into place. It may take months and a few false starts, but it will happen. Everything will turn out exactly the way that it is supposed to, and it will be good. (so says the lady who hunted for 18 months and had 3 loser contracts before the winner came along)
