Favorite brand of boxed cake mix and why

What's your favorite brand?  I've only used Duncan Hines and am thinking of trying a different one.  Is any one better than another?

Over the last few years I have taken to making scratch cakes rather than using mixes.  I used to really like them, but after making scratch cakes, I don't  care for them much.  Duncan Hines was ALWAYS what I chose and I had tried others.

I always like the thickness of the batter with DH, where Betty Crocker and other brands just seemed too runny.  I really think it is all in one's own preferences, but if I have to do a box cake it is always DH.

***disclaimer - had to make a box cake a couple of days ago.  I had made a cake from a recipe from Ina Garten and it was wonderful.  When I made it as cupcakes they fell apart trying to get them out of a silicone pan.  Grabbed a DH dark chocolate cake, added a box of instant pudding and increased the oil by 50%.  I also used brewed coffee in place of the water - got lots of compliments!!

  • No Pudge...the ingredients are all natural (nothing you can't pronounce or understand why it's in there), it's fat-free and the taste is good.  Not equal to a homemade cake, but if I'm pinched for time, it's my go-to boxed variety.
  • I haven't done a boxed cake mix in a while.  I just don't bake cakes that often and if I do I would use Ina's Beatty's Chocolate Cake.  Anyway, I do boxed brownies on occasion and like Duncan Hines the best.
