What's up next for anyone? 4th of July?

It's very quiet in here.  I think we're going to have some sort of cook out soon, it's just a matter of how many people we want to invite.

Our neighborhood does a huge 4th parade and potluck.  They base what you bring on the first letter of your last name so we're up for dessert.  I'm thinking lemonade cake.

  • Hi!   Am in "Guest" mode for most of the summer.  There are so many things we've been invited to - that I don't have to cook for.  And... my house needs a really good deep cleaning.  I should focus my energies on that.   Probably the next big, big event will be my girls' double birthday/Halloween Party.

Am still "lurking" for cute ideas and new recipes though!

Lucky duck on all those invitations!!  Looks like I am hosting most of the Summer, but I"m good with that as it is always time spent with my kids/g'kids or very best friends.

  • I just had a housewarming party and made strawberry shortcake- my "go-to" summer dessert! Lemonade cake sounds delicious though, I'll definitely have to try that out.

  • I won't be hosting for the 4th, but I am getting together with my 4 high school BFF's and their families on July 28th for a cookout. It will be the first time we've gotten together since college. I'm still trying to put together a menu for that. I want it to be cute and festive.
  • Boo, nothing for us.  I'm with DH for the summer and he's in a social wasteland - small town, only 1 coworker under 50.  Normally his aunt does a huge thing with 100 people for the 4th (remember I made 5 desserts last year?), but we're 7 hours away from her this summer.

    wow!!!sounds yummy...

  • I am hosting a party again this year, but again on the 3rd since people will have to work on the 5th.  This year I'm doing it in the evening because 1) I have to work that day and 2) I wanted to die last year in the heat.  My backyard cools off pretty well by about 6, especially if its windy.

I'm keeping it much more low key since I have to work that day but did invite about 50 people again.  I am doing brats that will be pre-cooked in a very tasty beer broth and only need heated (set up as a DIY station over charcoal).  I'm catering grilled chicken breast.  Thinking about adding a platter of lunch meat pinwheels for an after drunk snack.  I still need to come up with some easy sides I can make the day before.  Many family will also bring sides so I don't need to go all out there.

We'll have a bonfire and s'mores as long as its not still 95 out by 9pm.  Of course no fireworks ever again so the bonfire is our new night time event.

  • We hosted a party last weekend for friends, just a get-together at our apartment. However, we are hopefully moving this summer into our first house (just put in an offer yesterday!), so I'm really hoping come Sept/Oct, we have a housewarming party to throw :)

For the 4th--H is working, so nothing spectacular for us.
