Does anyone have Corian countertops?

I'm just wondering what you love or hate about them.  How are they to clean and have you have any problems with burns, scratches, etc.?

TIA!

Re: Does anyone have Corian countertops?

  • I like them.  I went from granite to this.  Granite was too much of an upgrade in PA compared to AZ, so thought I would try them.  Heard HORRIBLE things, AFTER we had signed the contract on my house. So, I was really worried.  But, they are pretty cool.  Both Granite and Corian state that you should not put hot pots on them.  Corian says they are heat resistant, not proof.  Light scratches buff out with Soft Scrub.  So, two years old, I've been fine.  Cleaning is awesome.  You can really get them clean, as opposed to granite.  I do recommend a light color, though.  Shows less prints, dirt, and scratches.  I use the Home Depot Cleaner.....AWESOME. No streaks, stains, beautiful.  Mine look like poured concrete.  Really amazing design.
  • I have them and hate them.

The previous owners put a hot pan on one area and we have a huge crack that can't be repaired (we have a cutting board over it as a temporary fix).

My husband also took a chunk out of the countertop with a metal spatula.  On accident...he was demonstrating his cooking techniques. Indifferent

  • I had Corian-like counter tops.  They weren't the brand name Corian, but were the same solid surface material.  The color faded on the penninsula in spots.  In general

I'm just not a fan.  I don't really see the point of spending the extra money on Corian over laminate when to me, the two look pretty similar (meaning fake).

  • I have them, they're fine. Low maintenance, no problems. I would love them if I had picked the color, but they came with the house.

My only complaint is because ours have a built in white sink, it's tough to keep that clean looking. I have to bleach it at least weekly. Go with a stainless sink if you get them.

  • We have Corian and I actually really like it.  We moved into our house and this is what they had - I'm not replacing it anytime soon.  I agree with PP about the white sink being hard to keep clean, but the counters are amazing.  We moved from old, white, Formica, though.  I'm not a fan of granite, though, so I'm a bit biased.

We have Corian in the kitchen and granite in the bathrooms. Of the two I just prefer the Corian. To me it has a cleaner, more classic look. I like that it doesn't have the high shine of the granite.

  • I love my Corian! I got Raincloud and it looks like marble, but SO much more durable. You can see pics of it in my kitchen here:
