any runners do insanity?

I've heard great things about the insanity workout, but I also want to run 2-3 days a week.  Are you able to combine the two?

Re: any runners do insanity?

  • I did but I modified the workout schedule.  I ran 4x a week and did Insanity 3x a week but one of the Insanity workouts was always the recovery workout which has no cardio (and I did that one on one of my running days).  My only caution is that it's easy to get injured with Insanity so be careful and don't push yourself or "compromise form" (which he says a million times) but it's true.
  • I did the insanity workouts once per week while I was running. Ease into them because it's easy to get injured doing them while going full speed ahead.
  • I am.  I just finished month 1 yesterday and start the recovery week tomorrow.  I cut my running back to 2xs per week 3-4 miles just to keep a base up.  I do insanity in the a.m., run in the p.m.  Once I finish month two, I plan on alternating w/ my runs b/c I am doing a half in October.

The program is hard on your joints so be careful, particularly since it looks like you are only a few weeks post partum.  My joints felt pretty loose for a couple months after having my DD and I am not sure I would have felt comfortable with all the jumping and pounding Insanity has early on.

  • I think you will be fine. Just make sure you do plenty of stretching before and after. Try to warm up well.
