Dining room chair fabric advice....

Our dining room has wood floors and an area rug that has a pattern with green, maroon, and light beige.  I would like to put new fabric on our chairs.  Should I stick with a solid color for our chairs?  I'm not sure if there are any "rules" where they both shouldn't be patterns.

Re: Dining room chair fabric advice....

  • They can both be patterns, but if the rug patten is busy then the chair pattern should be subtle, like stripes. You don't want anything too bold to be on both. Then maybe solid curtains. Or striped curtains and solid chairs.
  • Your not saying what your rug pattern is. Diamond patterns have always been popular on dining room chairs. You'll find a variety of them. If you use your dining room all the time and have children, you might want to consider microfiber, since it wiped clean.

I once had a decorator from a local store come by my house. Their service was free. I couldn't afford what he suggested but learned a lot about mixing patterns, and ended up doing it all myself.

  • You can even go with mix match color combination or even if your rug is of dark color then you can choose the same color with lighter complexion. They both will look great, though I preferred mix match, I used Damask Fabric for the chair. Below is the image of the fabric I used for chair.
