update to our insulation quote and a ???

So we had a company come out on Saturday to give us a quote on insulation.  For our 1,008 sq ft brick ranch, we can get injection foam for the exterior walls for $2,078.34.  We also talked about the attic.  They will add blown in fiberglass for $1,290 or a "hot roof" which is spray foam insulation which fills the spaces between the framing studs in the walls and the attic.  Supposedly, by using spray foam insulation, it creates a better airtight envelope.  The spray foam will be more expensive.  $4,700 for the spray foam attic and the inject for the walls.

Has anyone heard of this???  Can you help me out at all???  My dad is telling me it's a bad idea, of course this is three days after we decided.  It hasn't been done yet, they are scheduled for Thursday, we still can change it.

Re: update to our insulation quote and a ???

  • I used to work for a company that did insulation, and that spray-in IS really good.  I would just make sure to check out the company doing it pretty well to make sure they're going to do a good job installing it.

  • I don't know crap about spray foam insulation, but there are other options for your attic, at least. You can rent the machine from depot for free with a minimum purchase of insulation and do the spray-in insulation yourself (not foam, more like recycled newspapers. I forget what exactly it's called). We did ours for about $500. Home Depot wanted to charge us $1,500 to do it. It made a difference.

  • This probably won't really help you since I have no information on any of that. However, I watch a lot of holmes on home and he always uses the spray foam insulation...
