Uti

Hi, just wondering if anyone gets alot of uti's and if they jave found anythung that prevents them. I feel like I do all the atuff, such as peeing before and after sex, cotton undies, try not to hold my pee, I dont really drink cranberry juice, but I do drink alot of h20. I have had two in the last 2 months now. Also, I have been taking the otc azo stuff for pain. Is it nprmal tjat it ia turning my discharge yellow as well as my pee? Are there any otc s that wont do this? I am on antibiotics as well..

Re: Uti

  • I am in the same boat as you. I have had six or seven (lost count) in the past 9 months. I was doing everything I was supposed to do to avoid them and still managed to get them. I started about a month ago taking two azo cranberry pills twice a week and two cystex pills with them, it helped alot. I have started to get one because I missed taking the combo but when I took it I was fine. Keep seeing your doctor and ask them to run as many test as possible to make sure it isn't something else. The discharge I would talk to your doctor about. I hope that helped :)
  • Also certain birth controls can increase your chance of getting UTIs
  • Go make an appointment with a urologist.

I am willing to bet that you have some sort of a stricture or other issue that is causing you to harbor bacteria. Your H needs to see a doc also -- you may have a bug that you and he are passing back and forth to each other.

It's not an STD, it's just bacteria that you and he pass back and forth. It happens.

If that is the case, he will need to be treated with you with antibiotics.

It could also be opportunistic bacteria, due to the antibiotic you are taking.

In the meanwhile, you and he drink a little cranberry juice each morning --- or take cranberry pills once a day. GL.
  • As Tarpon said, go to a urologist. When this was happening to me years ago, I did the same.

For me, I had not been given sufficient antibiotic to cure it only to stave it off for a few days. I still can't believe that my stupid regular doctors only gave me 3-4 days of meds. He told me to do at least 10 days of macro bid and then to refrain from sex for at least a week or so after. Do not drink any alcohol while on the antibiotics as even one drink will nullify them. Finally they stopped. Hopefully yours is as easy.

  • And do your bit to keep your urinary tract healthy:

Cotton panties only -- I'm a firm believer in them

Drink lots of water, drink your cranberry juice/cranberry pills, eat yogurt, void often, wipe correctly, that type of thing.

Avoid perfumed soaps, avoid deodorant maxipads, shower at least once a day. And if you go to the gym, wear cotton gym pants and cotton underwear.

  • Go see a Urologist. I am a urology nurse and see this everyday. Some women are more prone to UTI's.It is normal for the AZO to change your discharge color not just your urine. Sometimes the cranberry pills help but some women need to take an antibiotic post sex to prevent UTIs.
  • I'm so glad this question was asked.  I am currently taking antibiotics for yet ANOTHER uti infection.  My doc suggested I go see a urologist as well.  Didn't think an appointment was needed, but it looks like I'm calling tomorrow.  Thanks!
  • Hi I can so feel your pain with the UTI's about 2 years ago I began suffering from them.  After being with my DH for over 10 years.  So it was strange since we were in a monogamous relationship for all those years.  I found out it was my Birth Control that I had been taking for the 10 years making me more susceptible because of the high estrogen levels.  However, before I discovered the problem I found a solution to preventing them.  For me cranberry pills or cranberry juice never worked or any of the other suggestions you mentioned.  You name it I tried them all.  What I found is that you have to eat 3 tbsp of Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil a day when you have intercourse.  It is a lil high in calories, but overall it will help.  Do this the day you have intercourse and a few days after just to be sure.  Coconut oil is antibacterial and will kill any bad bacteria in your bladder.  It is so much better than taking antibiotics.  I went to the Urologist he said he would need me to have more infections before he could diagnose me.  However, I was also told by my primary the more infections you have they scar your bladder.  Meaning you are more susceptible.  So I have decided to not allow myself to get one rather than get one and back to the urologist.  I hope this works for you.  It has helped everyone else I know with the same problem.
