Living in a Sea of White!

I'm a newbie here and saw that everyone here has a lot of ideas.  My husband and I live in privatized military housing and everything in there is white. We can decorate how ever we want but we obviously can't paint anything. I'm a photographer and we put some of my pictures up but we obviously don't want to turn the house into a gallery.  Any thoughts for a pop of color?

  • You can use tension rods and fabric to add color.  I would try to bring in as much color as you can with accessories (pillows, lamps, art).  Good luck!

  • Watch for sales at Joann's or Michael's and purchase their GIANT canvases.  They go 50% off quite frequently.  Paint your own art - you could mimic Rothko for a modern, huge, burst of color.

You could also cover any size canvas with fabric you like.  You could do small groupings of square fabric covered frames.

I really like that idea. I could probably convince my husband to do it with me and make it a date night. Painting with some wine!

  • Where we used to live was pretty monotone (and small) and drove us crazy, so we got chair covers in blue, lots of throw pillows in reds and blues to go with a mexican blanket I threw over the couch, bought fabric to make basic simple curtains in a different color, put up pictures that are inspired by latin places (we both have been to central/south america many times and places like that use lots of bright colors). We bought a tablecloth, hope some of these give you some ideas, its pretty easy to add color to white since it wont clash or look out of place to do some brighter colors.
