Keurig VS Cofffe maker

Hello,

I have a high end coffee maker but DH and I usually only make 2 cups at a time daily (at the most).  Wondering if we should invest in a keurig.  Does the coffee come out tasting the same?  I'm big on starbucks coffee so taste is very important to me.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Keurig VS Cofffe maker

  • We have the Cuisinart, which is very similar to the kuerig, the one we have is great it has an extra filter on the side so u can actually get ground coffee and just put that in the filter if u dont want to use one of the individual K-cups that u can buy. starnucks has plenty that u can buy. i worked at bed, bath and beyond at the time, and my co-workers suggested the cuisinart would be better for us, and i think its great, we use it for coffee, tea, and cocoa. I would suggest getting one if u dont drink a whole pot a day. :)
  • I have a Keurig and use it every single morning!  DH and I wake up at different times, so it doesn't make sense to brew a whole pot, especially since he's not much of a coffee drinker.  We have a special filter for the Keurig that allows you to put your own coffee into the filter if you don't feel like buying the disposable K-cups.

ETA:  Like PP, DH is constantly brewing tea in it and in winter it's great for hot chocolate!

  • We had a nice coffee pot that was given to us as an engagement gift and we loved it. But its just the two of us, we both like different types and strenghts of coffee. We got up at drastically different times and sometimes it was a waste.  I was thinking about a Keurig and got it for a steal with a Kohls sale, kohls cash AND a 30% off coupon.  We LOVE IT.  We each have our own kcups that we like.  We can instantly have coffee at any time and not waste it.  I dont like strong coffee but i believe starbucks has kcups if i remember correctly

I still kept my coffee pot b/c wehn i have company i use that rather than wasting all those kcups.

  • I got my keurig as a present to myself a little over a year ago, I don't see how people go with anything else! My husband doesn't drink coffee so it didn't ever make sense for me to make a whole pot to drink two cups and toss so much. I got the mini, which does one cup at a time, you have to add water. Since it's only me it made sense. My hubby will occasionally have a decaf or a cocoa, but it wouldn't be worth the bigger keurig for us, however my parents have the bigger one and they love it because they can drink  multiple cups at once and it stays warm. You can buy starbucks k-cups and you can buy a filter pack thing and use your own coffee, kinda a pain once you get used to just putting a k-cup in and pushing a button but you can. You can also go online and order from keurig and when you register your brewer you get a buy 2 get 2 coupon code. I use that and get coffee on sale and it ends up being the same amount of money for those.
  • Yes!! I'm a big coffee/tea drinker, and I absolutely love my Keurig.  I would never drink enough to finish a whole pot and hated throwing out so much.  It's also great for hot water so you can add hot chocolate or make instant oatmeal or something.  Highly recommend it!
  • At home, we still use our 12-cup coffee pot because H and I are coffee fiends.  But at work we have a Keurig and I love it.  H hates flavored coffee so I buy the flavored K cups and brew them at work.  The taste seems fine and there is such a variety of brands and types of coffee out there that you should be able to find one you love.  Otherwise, as others have said you can get the filter to put your own coffee in.

  • I could not live without my Keurig!!  H isn't a coffee person, but loves that he can brew hot chocolate and apple cider!  I like that i'm not wasting a whole pot!  :)

  • We absolutely love our Keurig. It was on sale at Bergner's a couple month ago so we bought it and use it every single day. I make myself a cup in the morning and sometimes a cup during the day too on the weekends. It's nice to not brew a whole pot because H doesn't care for coffee. He does, however, make hot chocolate and hot apple cider with it all the time. We just got the smallest/cheapest one, but in the future, I might upgrade to a model that allows me to set it to automatically brew in the morning while I'm showering/getting ready.

  • I'm not really a fan of the Keurigs, I think their coffee comes out much too weak and bitter no matter what the blend. We got a CBTL (Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf) cartridge machine which makes MUCH better coffee and it makes espresso!!! However, their beverage selection is still small at the moment, especially compared to Keurig which has about 99% of the individual brewing market cornered.

If you can get into a Bed Bath and Beyond, they will demo both for you so you can taste it for yourself.

  • We registered for the Cuisinart version of the Keurig for our wedding, but we didn't receive it.  We did however receive the french press coffee maker we also registered for.  I don't drink coffee at all, but H is a huge coffee snob and he loves the french press so much we aren't even going to waste the money on the machine.

  • Hi, my husband and I have had our Keurig now for over two years and I swear I will never go back to a standard coffee maker. We also only drink about 2 cups on the weekday, my husband drinks his coffee mostly at work. The K cups are fairly reasonable compared to beans and available everywhere! I mean, any grocery store in my town, plus random places like Macy's, JCPenny and Bed Bath and Beyond. And there are so many brands and flavors to choose from. You can even get Chai latte, regular tea, cocoa... I'm sort of a coffee snob too, the taste is as good as a standard coffee maker, and if you love Starbucks, there are several common Starbucks flavors available for Keurig. Have fun!
  • I love my Keurig.  I bought it years ago while working at Bed Bath and Beyond.  The Cuisinart one is GREAT and I would've bought that one had it been out when I made my original purchase.  Anyway, they do make other single-cup coffee makers with individual coffee/tea pods, but I found that Keurig had a larger variety so that's why I went that route.

I kept my 12-cup maker so I could break it out for company.  I've been moving it from house to house for three or four years (we move a lot) and have used it one time.  I think it's going in the garage sale pile.

French presses are GREAT, but I hate cleaning mine.  It might be a good option for you, though.  Check it out.

  • And Starbucks does have their own line of K-Cups.  If you like it stronger, select a cup size that's smaller (if the machine you buy allows you to choose your cup size.)

  • I have a Keurig and i love it. I use it because i like coffee and my husband isn't big on coffee. I also bought the My K Cup thing, which allows me to use any coffee that I want. I also just use it to boil water for tea. I think the taste is better than a regular coffee pot.
