Starting the P90X Together

My H and I are in the middle of week one. We both skipped yesterday because we didn't feel good, not from working out, but stomach problems.

Should we try to power through days when we don't feel good (if not talking about muscle soreness)? Should I be working out during menstruation or PMS?

Re: Starting the P90X Together

  • When I did P90X the first time around, I was really stringent and almost did every day, except the stretch, but I did cut down the yoga to just about an hour.  That was about 2 years ago now, this past winter I did it again (after taking the summer off) and was less loyal to doing every workout and skipped all the ab rippers at the end and skipped yoga.  I would say that if I was feeling sick and not just having muscle aches, I would typically skip all exercise even just walking/running....but I'm a wimp! If it were muscular, I'd probably  try to power through, but maybe do less weights or less reps, depending on how bad I felt.
  • Two-time P90X'er here . . .  I say if you're not feeling well (stomachache, GI problems, etc.) then sure, take a day off.  But I wouldn't allow PMS or menstruation be reasons in and of themselves.  If you're having severe cramps or something, obviously take it easy - but studies have shown that some exercise is good for you and helps relieve PMS symptoms.

  • My husband and I did P90X together.  We love every minute of it.  I still do it during menstruation but usually do stretching or yoga during the first couple of days.   Also you know your own body so if you just don't feel like doing it then either do stretching or take the day off.  Don't force yourself to do that when you are feeling sick.
