Right now I use Bare Minerals Prime Time Foundation Primer and Bare Minerals powder foundation. I really like using the powder foundation, but their primer leaves a lot to be desired. If I don't shake the container daily the formula will seperate. I took the bottle back to the store the first time it happened and they replaced it for free. Now I didn't shake my bottle for a few days (I don't wear makeup every day) and I could tell it was starting to seperate. Once it seperates it won't remix.
So, what is your favorite foundation primer? A novice question - is it fine to use a different brand primer and foundation? Or should you generally use the same brand for both?
Re: Foundation primer?
I don't use the same brand primer and makeup.
I have a few favorites (I have oily skin) - Kprres Mattifying Primer, Benefit the Porefessional
Not to sound snotty, but why on earth are you shaking your primer? I use this exact primer and makeup and it works just fine sitting on the counter all the time. Just let it be and it will work just fine.
Aside from that, I've also been told that smashbox primers are good.
What do a primer do for your skin/foundation?
After cleansing, I use a serum(Image Vita-C), then apply eye cream (clarins) and a nice layer of moisturizer (clarins). That seems to help my foundation go on smoothly.
I use VS Pro Airbrush FX Perfecting Primer SPF 20 from Victoria's Secret. One bottle lasts me a long time and I love the formula. I have used quite a few, but none seem to compare to this one.
You do not need to use the same brand of primer and foundation. Hardly any of my makeup is made by the same brand. I use that primer under a foundation that I get from Avon.
My current all over foundation primer is currently super low end: Hard Candy's Sheer Envy Primer in the ultra light formula. I got it in a bag of stuff from a swap and really like its smooth consistency. My other favourite is Benefit's "Stay don't stray", which is more a concealer primer but the spots I plan on concealing are usually those I prime anyways.
And as a few previous posters have mentioned, no, it does not matter the brand.

Usually, I mix & match brands all the time, but sometimes with BE, other brands of primer can make the Bare Minerals pill. Not all the time, just sometimes.
I use Smashbox's hydrating primer and love it. But I also have dry skin. I've also never had to shake up a primer before... and have never heard of it separating.
Love Love Love Smashbox!
I generally use their tinted primer but just bought their green primer to reduce redness and love that one as well!
