Faux Beams?

Hi All.

They use these on ABC's Extreme Home Makeover. They are faux wooden beams for ceilings and they come in various styles, colors and "wood" types.

Have any of you seen them in real life? Thoughts? Do they look real or just cheapo?

Re: Faux Beams?

  • Our builder just completed a custom home with them. They were crafted by his woodworking guys that make all the moldings for his homes.

They are not my style but I thought his looked nice if it is the look nicely done and I think the important part is if they blend with the moldings.

  • If they are real wood surfaces they should look fine depending on the space you are putting them in, I have friends who have done this and because their cielings are sloped it looks legit, if they are laminate or some other surface I would stay away from them.
  • We bought faux beams from a company in Dallas last year for our dining room and kitchen and they look terrific.  Ours aren't real wood, they're the polyurethane/foam.  They had several different textures - a couple looked sort of shiny to me - but we went with the Rustic faux beams and we are so happy, they look very real.  Here is their website: http://www.owtraditions.com.  Good luck!
