Give me curb appeal !!!

Help me pick our new exterior paint colors or show me where to get inspiration ideas.  Everything is white on white as you can see. I wish we could add shutters, but all the windows and accents seem off center and odd !!  Should we just do the main color and a second for the trim.  Or should we try to do three, by adding the third on the decor accents? (may be hard to see those in the pic)  Go dark on the main color or stay light......... Don't know where to start........!!

Thanks,Cynthia

Re: Give me curb appeal !!!

  • What colors are your neighbors' houses? I like the white trim - it looks clean and crisp. You could go any color, really with white trim, but what's the style and feel of your neighborhood? I wouldn't deviate too far from that since buyers don't want to buy the odd house on the street. Your windows are cool, but Id do the main color first and that just might be all that you need.

Also, I've read that the color yellow can evoke a desire to buy things...good idea for flowers and porch decor...

  • I'm a big fan these days of deeper, rich exterior colors.  A couple that I've seen on homes of friends are SW Griffin & BM Smoky Ash.  If you wanted to go darker for the main body, you could go lighter on trim & that could look really pretty.  Good luck!
  • Well in my opinion some shining blue would perfectly match with your white walls! jeux grattage
  • Even though you got a real pretty home and no need to touch, still you might go a bit more tanned on the body. Its looks to me as a classic Florida home!
  • I agree with the PPs. I think once you add an additional main color, the white trim will really pop. You could paint your front door a pretty color and add some flowers to brighten things up as well.
  • I know you won't be vinyl siding your house but here's a link to a site that you can play around with the colors on:

  • Besides color (go here http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/for-your-home/color-your-home-for-curb-appeal for that )

change out the doors on  the garage - at the moment - they add noting to the home. http://www.designerdoors.com/pages/timbercraft.html

Think about a new front door

    Consider ahrdscaping the drive

rethink the landscape - at the moment, it is dull

    think about exterior lighting

  • Funny you mention this. My DH and I were at Home Depot ordering windows yesterday and trying to decide color. I picked up an Exterior Paint brochure that had "families". Any paint store will have these.

Another option would be to drive around different neighborhoods- brand new and well established to ideas. I'm probably going to borrow the cream and sage scheme I saw on a house with the same brick as I have while on a walk the other morning.

    For curb appeal-

    1. New roof. Because it's such a big part of the look of your house, the old school builder's grade style and obvious repair on the garage were the first thing I noticed.

    2. The second thing that jumped out at me was the tiny light fixture. The scale is all wrong for lighting over a double garage door. It looks skimpy, like you were trying to save money. You need something bigger. Not loving your house numbers, they look like an afterthought. Maybe something ceramic or bronze would be more interesting, either in your garden, near the door or even on a long plaque where the current ones are.

    3. If your trim is capped, as is often the case in FL, you are probably stuck with it, so finding a deeper color for the stucco makes sense. Perhaps a deeper cream or even a pale coral with an unexpected accent color like orchid or bright tourquoise.

    4. It might be useful to add more landscaping. You could extend the bed along the walkway and add in some drawf shrubs or even a small tree.

    5. Is that center window missing its mullions? It seems not to match the others.

    6. Consider swapping out the garage doors for a carriage house style.
