So this came up in a discussion with J. Back story...I posted on my local board about a wedding event coming up that I learned about through FB. The lady was kinda rude and called me a vendor. I explained that I wasn't a vendor and that I am from there and got it in an email, and then deleted it.
J said that people use the internet to be jerks or let out their "true" feelings because there is no consequences. I asked him if he was a jerk online, and he said that he is a little bit more open online when playing a game with other people.
So this got me wondering...Do you think you are the same online as you are IRL?
Re: A random thought...
Married the love of my life on 1-21-12. Our princess arrived on 5-28-13.
Agreed!
I am much more inappropriate in real life because I am comfortable with my friends and family about jokes/comments/ect. Mainly sexually related. Here- I am afraid of being judged for it since you don't actually know me or can't see my expressions, so I usually keep it appropriate.
This is me too. I know how judgmental people can be online, so I tend to watch what I say. I'm a lot less sarcastic online since people can't tell I'm being sarcastic.
ETA: I think Ben is a lot more open online. He'll say things that I know he would be hesitant to say in person.
This is J too.
This is me! For the most part I'm the same online versus offline. But the sarcastic and dirty sense of humor can get lost online.
I am the same. If I am anything, I also don't joke as much, but when I do I use smileys so you all know. Even if that makes me dorky. I just don't believe in not being nice to people, and if I don't have something nice to say, I don't say it.
I have no idea about H. I think he is about the same too.
