Dog Beach

I know there are a small handful of beaches in the area that allow dogs or are only for dogs.  My Google searches are not very successful right now.  Does anyone have any info on these or experience?  We'd love to take Jackson but we're not sure where to go or if it's worth it.

TIA

Re: Dog Beach

  • The dog beach at Quiet Waters is closed but there are still spots off the trails you can take them for a dip. The water quality has been terrible lately though. You can also rent boats there and dogs can swim off the boat.

There are no "unleashed" spots but dogs can swim at Flag Ponds Park and Calvert Cliffs Park in Calvert County and Terrapin Park in Stevensville (free). There are nice trails at all three. There is also a beach area in Chesapeake Beach but they now charge $10 a person during peak season and it's a rip off. It used to be free.

  • That's disappointing - but thanks for the trail info.  We're always looking for new trails.

  • I'm curious about this too.  I'd love to find one where the water quality isn't too bad.  Some of the lakes around here are pretty nasty unfortunately.

In addition to dog beaches, does anyone know of pools that you can take dogs?  I know of one in PA but not in this area.

  • I usually take Josie and Roscoe out to the Little Gunpowder falls in Joppa, MD. Your not really suppose to have them off the leash, but we do, and we just watch them really closely.

I don't post much here, I just lurk occasionally, but we take our dogs here and it's awesome! The owner is there every time and is super friendly. All the other employees are great and love working with dogs. I highly recommend it!
