Lachute re:BLW

When did you start giving Milo a cup when giving solids?

We've started Jack (he's 6.5 mo) on solids last week and he is doing really well.  I know they said you can provide them water.  Did you start him on a sippy first and then move to cup or go straight to cup?

  • Sorry to butt in, but we did BLW too. A friend of mine suggested with sippy cups that you get several different kinds. First, if they take to any of them, you don't have to worry about going out or going somewhere and not having "THE" sippy, secondly, you don't know if your kid is going to be particular and not like one over another. Some of the best advice I've been given, and I try to pass it along.

We use klean kanteens and like them, with the avent tops (which I have if you want them). He was about 9 months, when he started using a straw.

  • Thanks mz -

I have this cup but haven't used it yet.  It works in stages so it has handles and I think a spout before moving to a straw.

  • We had that one originally before we left it somewhere, this was in the beginning, when we were not used to bringing stuff for him. Now we know better. I also REALLY like the lollacup

  • So those lolla cups must be popular - they are sold out on every website I go to.

What are avent lids you mentioned?

  • Can't type much at the moment but L did better with a straw cup at first. She didn't get the concept of the lift/tilt motion that was necessary to work a spout cup. If you give a straw cup, put the straw in his mouth so it touches the roof of his mouth. Sucking is pretty much automatic!

  • We used a regular cup from 6 months. And offered water through the meal. Around 8months we switched to sippys so he wouldnt spill on himself or the floor. We use nalgenes now we tried three types of sip cups, boon (easiest when he was little, oxo, and nalgenes) Then we really like nalgenes and stocked up on three. M has never showed an obbession with one type of cup. He could careless at this point.  He also drinks well from adult cups and water bottles.
  • Also m is terrible with a straw cup. Each kid is so different.
