Nail color - how often do you switch it up?

How often do you change your nail color?

Me: Toes once a week or more if I am not feeling the color. Fingers.. since they chip so fast no matter what I try, 3x a week.

Is this too much? I don't want to damage my nails.  :(

Re: Nail color - how often do you switch it up?

  • I do my toes every other week and nails once a week. There is nothing wrong with doing it more, but sometime acetones or polish removers can make your nails brittle and you may notice your nail is peeling. If you use a nourishing base coat or a non acetone polish remover, it would be better.

  • I also do fingers once a week, toes every other week.

Are you using a base coat and top coat?

Also try L'oreal nail polish- I can go 5 or 6 days before it starts chipping, which is unheard of for me. With other brands (even high end) I start chipping in 2 or 3 days.

  • I use Essie's Grow Stronger base coat and Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat. As far as polishes I've tried Essie, Revlon, Loreal, Nails Inc, Deborah Lippman, Sally Hansen, OPI, and Nars. Best luck I've had is with Nails Inc and Nars, but even then it only stays on for 2 days before chipping.

My best friend will paint her nails with the same products and hers stays on for a week without chips. I don't do anything that would cause them to chip faster (I just have an office job, and short nails - I type with the pads of my fingers). Maybe it's just my nails? I just don't get it. lol..

  • I used a Loreal and it worked pretty well.  Barielle has been the best for me 9~4-5 days).  Seche is the absolute worst and I get maybe 2 days. I only use it when I know I'll repaint quickly or need to do my nails in minutes. Seche's top coat dries instantly which is pretty awesome.  I switch toes maybe every 2 weeks and fingers 1-2/wk.

  • I don't paint my fingernails, but I paint my toenails 1-2 times a week or more if they chip fast.

  • Toes once or twice a month depending on the color I'm wearing. Due to my job I can't wear nail polish at work so I normally paint them on days off or vacation
