No green thumb

Is there a trick to having a green thumb? I can't seem to keep any plant alive. I was doing well with some annual phlox but we got flooded and now they're gone and I cant seem to grow anything else.  We live in military housing so anything we do plant has to be in pots. Any suggestions for a novice gardener? Preferably some kind of bright pretty flower.  Our entire yard is green. I need some more color!

Re: No green thumb

  • My suggestion would be to go to a local nursery in your area (not a big box store like Walmart or Home Depot) and ask someone there for suggestions on what is easy and low maintenance for your area.  I am in Western NY and could give you some good recommendations for this part of the USA, but not sure where you are located.
  • A local nursery is a great recommendation. I do however have your same problem (I call it a thumb of death because that's how wonderful mine is), and Lowe's, Walmart, and/or Home Depot will have a years warranty on plants. They'll give you money back, or a new plant if yours dies within a year. Check with your local store(s) though.
