Recommend your sheets

I need new sheets for our bed and I am so confused by all the different types.

Re: Recommend your sheets

  • I love the sateen Canopy brand from Walmart. They get softer and softer every time you wash them.  And they are deep so they don't slip off the mattress.

  • Really brand doesn't matter all that much. Look at thread counts. The higher the thread count, the softer the sheets. It's generally good to not go beneath 280. Also, pay attention to how deep your mattress is and be sure the fitted sheet will fit.

You can get nice sheets from 325-400 thread count at Target and Bed Bath & Beyond.

Depending on the size you can expect to pay $30-$60. This may seem like a lot, but with washing, cheaper sheets will fall apart faster. There are sheets that are more $$$, they have higher thread counts or are made from finer material. But, if you're looking for a decent, comfy sheet, a 400 thread count is good.

  • I pretty much ignore thread counts, crappy thread made from short pieces will pill however high the count. Plus many manufactureres lie.

Look for long staple or Pima cottons. I like Company Store for sheets

  • Sheets are something you really need to go into the store so you can feel the softness/texture to make sure you like it. Some people really like the soft, high thread count sheets, where others like the scratchy 200 thread count sheets (sounds crazy, but I had a guy come in last week and ask me for our scratchiest sheets!) Some sheets with lower thread counts, but that have sateen in them can feel softer than a higher thread count sheet too, so again, it's a good idea to go into the store and feel the samples they have out.

I personally love the Damask line at Bed Bath and Beyond. It's a 500 thread count, fairly soft sheet set that washes well and is decently priced.
