Countering a counter offer?

I interviewed for a great job that I think would be a smart career move, and I was offered the job last Friday. They offered the low end of my salary range, which will only be about $500 more than my current position when I receive a raise in August. They also offered less paid time off: 10 vacation, I currently get 14; 5 sick days, I currently get 10; 10 holidays, I currently get 12.

I countered their offer and asked for an extra $5,000 and 15 vacation days. They countered back today and said they'd match my current 14 vacation days, but the salary stands.

So the salaries are almost a wash. I'd be losing a total of 9 paid days off, which will equal about $1,500. There is also no dental insurance, so I'd have to go on DH's. However, there is a 3% IRA match, which I do not currently have.

Would you counter their counter on my counter? LOL. I really would like to take this job, but don't want to take a step back. I'm really not sure what to do here. Any advice is appreciated!

  • I firmly believe being happy at work is worth way more than any amount of money.  If you can afford it, take it.  No saying where it might lead either.

  • I create offers for the company I work for, including wages and honesty I would be offended if someone countered the second offer.  They have already given you more then they originally wanted.

  • Eh...I've 29 and never ever had a job that offered paid vacation/sick days or health insurance.  You are coming off as greedy and spoiled.  So many people would kill to be in your shoes right now.  Take the new job.  So what if you are only getting and extra $500.  I'd take the extra $500!  Then again I'm not greedy and spoiled like you are.
