Are you pregnant? Rude People.

I got "what is your baby's name" since my sister was born (I was 12). Then when I got older 17/18 I started getting "when are you due" , "are you pregnant". So I have had years of practice with rude awkward questions from complete strangers. I have even argued with a customer (3 years ago) over my not being preggers. They kept insisting I was. I finally gave in and made up a story to shut them up. I even got a C- section question a coupe of times while wearing bathing suit.

Now I don't fully blame these people because I carry my weight like I am preggers. I even have cloths in my closet that are maternity clothes because they fit better then normal stuff sometimes.

Do you remember me venting about my creepy neighbor on TK? H does not like creepy neighbor.  H came home from the store (he had just went out to buy me ice cream because I was craving it) and saw creepy neighbor hanging out with 2 guys. One of the guys were talking to creepy neighbors. Then as H walked buy creepy neighbor asks H "Is E pregnant?". H, "No" and walks away faster.

H comes in flustered and peeved. H thought it was so rude of him to ask that question. And he did it while someone was in the middle of a scentance interrupting them.  I asked H if he was upset a little because he wanted the answer to be a yes. Yup that was part of it. H wants a baby so bad and all I am is sick.

Re: Are you pregnant? Rude People.

  • Some people can be so rude.

When H and I first moved in together a few years ago, we went to Walmart to look for a non-skid rug to put by our front door (the one we had kept getting thrown all over the room by our black lab every time she came in). So, as H and I were looking, one of the workers asked "is the 1st addition to the family?" I said no, we have another dog and a cat at home. When I realized what she was getting at, I told her "Oh, I'm not pregnant, I'm just fat." SHe was so shocked that I wasn't pregnant and kept saying "you're kidding me!" over and over again. I told H that I needed to go before I hit her.

  • People are so stupid. It is never OK to comment with "are you pregnant?" to a stranger. It is a comment to a woman's body, and completely rude. I am a stylist for photo shoots and one time I wore a babydoll style of dress to a shoot to stay cool and comfy. One of my models asked when I was due. I said I wasn't, and before I knew it, I told her she was rude for asking and that she should never make comments on a woman's body. I never asked her to model again. I felt bad that I snapped, but I can't believe some people's audacity. I have a friend who gets asked sometimes, and it really puts her in a bad way, confidence-wise. She has thrown away clothes because of it before.

  • People are so rude.  I was at a show the other day and afterwards on line in the ladies' room a woman was going on and on about how she was convinced one of the actors was pregnant ("I mean, look at her stomach!").  None of us wanted to tell her how rude it was, but then another woman turned to the lady in front of me and said "how far along are YOU?!"  the response was "Oh, I'm not pregnant, just too many oreos, I guess".  That stopped the pg talk.

I'm sorry that you've gotten that a lot, and also that your H is upset that you aren't having a baby yet.  Your time will come!

Exactly. At my cousin's wedding years ago, one of my younger cousins (she was 10 at the time) asked my SIL if she was pregnant. SIL told her "you don't ever ask a lady if she's pregnant." That's the same way I've always felt.

I was never taught that it was rude or why. But I knew not to ask because that was just common sense to me. Maybe it had to do with being around so many pregnant women growing up.

Yes, my time will come but it is sad knowing that H feels that way. I wish things were different but this can only make us stronger, right?

  • Erollis, things are going to get better, and your right in the end this will only make you stronger. I'm sure that even though H feels that way, at the same time he wants you to get better first. You need to take care of you because a baby takes a lot out of you! Thoughts and Prayers for you guys.

    This exactly.

  • When the kiddo was arou d 3 months old, I was shopping for some clothes for him. Some lady came up to me and said "oh, you must be having a boy".

A kick straight to the baby maker is what she should have got.

    People are idiots.
