What can I do to a sectional...

to completely change it's look? DH's mom is getting new furniture and giving us their old sectional. Honestly, I'm not even sure I want it because it's large and I think may overwhelm the room, plus it doesn't match our decor and their dogs tore one of the cushions, but it's free and our current couch is old and uncomfortable and DH is very excited to get it, so fine. What can I do to make it look less bad without spending a ton of money?  I don't want this couch for long, so I don't want to invest a ton in it. Slipcovers are pretty expensive and not really made for sectionals that I've seen. That fabric paint takes like 15 cans for a sofa and isn't really an option with the ripped part anyways. Is it a really stupid idea to buy a couple sheets and try to sew them into a faux slipcover? (my sewing skills are pretty mediocre) Are there any other options? It'll be here in the morning!

Re: What can I do to a sectional...

  • I would just pass on the sectional. It doesn't sound like it's going to work out for you. Maybe check out craigs list to see if there is something in your budget that might work for you.
  • We have a really ugly vinyl futon, it is fairly large and dark. I just use large fitted sheets to hide it. This also makes cleaning it really easy sine I can just throw the sheets in the washer.
