4.2 million and counting

In less than 24 hours since the Supreme Court ruling on ACA Romney has raised 4.2 million dollars and counting.  That is one heap of money in such a sort time.  Message being sent --- Dems - you are losing the Senate.  Even if Obama keeps the presidency, with both the House and Sentate controlled by the Republicans, not much will go Obama's way.

Re: 4.2 million and counting

  • Yay! We have a P&CE post!!!
  • Yay! This board might be much better now that so many "regulars" have left.

I'd like for it to start up again.

  • Maybe we can do that. One thing I noticed before with the regulars was that they were always on this board. I don't know how they had time to post all day long.

Maybe none of them worked much. I can't post all day, day after day.

Haha. I'm like that. You might see me pop around from Board to Board. I guess I have TN commitment issues or I'm just really helpful (or opinionated.) And, I am a SAHM, so I do have tons of time when the kids are napping and the chores are done.

Anyway, with P&CE, I would like to discuss with little to no mud slinging. I get that people are passionate about their beliefs, but someone is not going to change the way they think due to a few paragraphs on a message board. There truly isn't any need to cuss somebody out for their ideas. We are all different for a variety of reasons and instead of belittling somebody or their ideas, I think we can encourage one another, despite differences.

In addition, from personal experience, I know that I've learned a bunch from actually listening to folks with whom I disagree. If we each gave someone else patience and time to explain something, we would all be better off. We would not agree but we would develop some respect for others with a variety of viewpoints.

Everyone always complains that there is so much negativity around Washington. But, then, they succume to the same type of behaviors in places like this.

It's a pretty pie in the sky idea I am having, but I would like to come here with an idea or a news article and just discuss without fearing for my life or getting walked all over.

In addition, I got the impression as a Newbie (when I was one) that posters on this board always felt like their turf was being invaded and that they did not want people to comment, especially those who differed in their viewpoints...it defintely felt that this place was a sacred ground and that no others were allowed. I would like all Newbies to be welcomed and to encourage them to speak up regardless of their positions.

  • Well I for one am glad all the regulars left so we could have this riveting, fast-paced discussion. Five responses? In a week? Whoa, slow down, guys.
  • Romney raised $100 million in June, which is a record for a GOP candidate.  The most all-time was Obama's $150 million in September of 2008.

I don't know how much of the $100 million was raised after the June 28 health care decision.

Edited to add:  Ann Romney hinted that a woman was being considered, most likely Kelly Ayotte.  It might also have been a trial balloon for Condi Rice, who has said she's not interested.  Cathy McMorris Rodgers is another possibility.  Susana Martinez claimed she didn't want it.

  • How does Romney losing money = Dems losing the Senate? Like I'm five, if you must.

I agree with you and lke the idea. I hate to see people attacked just because they have a different view of things. That happened on a regular basis here.

It would be great to actually have a place to discuss all views equally and with respect.

I read this also. I'd love it if Condi Rice were the VP candidate. Unrelated to politics, did you know that she is a very accomplished pianist?

Just because my view is based on something I read on a KKK website doesn't mean it shouldn't be treated equally and with respect!!

Yes, she was also provost at Stanford.  Her memoir is an interesting read, though I ran out of time and didn't get through with it.

That'd be an intriguing choice, but I doubt it would happen.  She hasn't seemed as interested in electoral politics.  We don't know her views on a lot of things, and this won't be a foreign policy election.

I hope it's Portman and wouldn't mind if it were Pawlenty.  If the election were looking like a slam-dunk, I'd go for Ryan, but it's not.  I see Romney topping out at around 250 electorals.  He can get a few Obama states but not enough of them.  I feel like Romney should make a push for the midwest states and forget about the west if he has to choose between the regions.  My gut says that Colorado and Nevada are more out of reach than Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Michigan's actually closer right now on the RCP average than Ohio, at least the last time I checked.  Michigan was 1.8 and Ohio 2.6 or something like that.
