Idlewild Park- where to buy discounted tix? any other tips?

We are thinking about going to Idlewild park with our 2.5 year old and in-laws with their 5 year old.  I was there maybe once or twice when i was in grade school so it was been a while...  If you go there and have any tips, suggestions, etc. that would be appreciated.  Also, does anyone know of places to buy discounted tickets?

TIA and happy Monday....

  • I love Idelwild for little kids! So much more to do than Kennywood, and it's shaded.

I just saw this over the weekend... $17 tickets (if you can go M-F):

  • You can buy discounted tickets at Giant Eagle - I don't know the price though.   You can take a cooler/food like you can to Kennywood.  So we always take a picnic lunch and some drinks in a cooler to save some money.
  • check with the township you live in - I know Franklin Park had the cheapest tickets when I looked last year - also ROss Township has discounts too.  And I think you can buy them even if you aren't in the township

  • If you plan to go more than once, consider a season pass.  We've been there 3 times this summer already and plan a few more trips, including for their Oktoberfesr and Hallowboo.  We love Raccoon Lagoon and Jumpin Jungle for the kiddie rides/activities but I hate Storybook Forest and never go there.  Although crowded, Soakzone is also fun.  We usually plan to get there at 11, eat our picnic lunch that we bring, ride from noon-3 and then Soakzone for 2-3 hours before drying off on a few rides and heading home.
