I've been toying with the idea of laser eye surgery for a few years now and finally think I need to just do it and get it over with. My vision is absolutely horrendous and my regular eye doctor where I live in Salisbury basically told me he didn't recommend anyone on the eastern shore and I should look into doctors in the Baltimore/Annapolis area. Since I'm from HarCo and my parents are still there that's not a problem for me but I would love to hear recommendations from anyone who had a good (or bad, I guess) experience with the surgery. Since my vision is so bad, I'm not looking for the cheapest, but someone who actually knows what they are doing. I'd like to meet with a couple of different doctors to get a few opinions so any recommendations are appreciated! Thanks!
Re: Any Lasik recs?
Since I'm interested to, what message boards did you use for reference.
My insurance offers discounts for two lasik management companies, but I'm at a loss when it comes to who to use when I finally take the plunge (hopefully at the end of this year).
Also, did you have to have custom lasik? I'm very close to being legally blind if I don't wear contacts. DH's cousin does this stuff for a living, I just wish it wasn't for government/military officials only.
When my vision was hazy for 3 days, I started Googling, and went to a few places that made me feel better (here and here) about what I was going through.
I actually bought a Groupon! People give me the side eye when I say that. I saw a few come up here and there, but when I'd research the companies, I wasn't 100% happy with the ratings/reviews I read, so I'd pass and wait for another. Eventually Katzen came up. I did research and also had heard a lot of positive things about them from people I knew, so I went with them. I would definitely research the company first, and see what people are saying.
I was also right on the edge of being legally blind, according to Katzen, and I also have astigmatism in my right eye. I didn't need custom, as they said it wasn't really necessary (no real eye issues I guess), and I did the regular blade (cheaper, and Dr Katzen said he'd been doing that for a really long time, versus the Intralase cutting, which has only been in practice for a few years).
The Groupon was $2400 for both eyes, and included all pre-op and check-ups for the full year post op. I probably wouldn't have done it if it was regular price (over $5k for basic).
