I still have 4 outstanding RSVPs. Now 2 I know are waffling, one of which already gave a "yes" answer but now is thinking of changing. But good grief, the party is Saturday -- make a decision! The location isn't a big deal but the party favors are -- I am completely screwed if all 4 show up. Right now I am at 13 confirmed and have those party favors (books). I am fine favor-wise for 14, can work 15 and beyond that am screwed. I am pretty confident that at least one of the 3 will not be attending but dang, you'd think giving me some notice would be appropriate. Hopefully they will be shamed enough by my notes to respond so I can make a quick run to the bookstore if I need to -- or just pull some seldom-read book off the kids' bookshelves if I must. Argh!

Re: Minor pet peeve re RSVPs
At DDs last party, my college roommate showed up with her two kids and hadn't RSVP'd. Unfortunately, her son didn't get a favor because I didn't buy enough. I felt bad, but couldn't do anything about it. Hopefully, she'll RSVP in the future.
Could you buy the extra books and return them in the event they don't show?
I think I can avoid that now. I got 2 of the 4 to RSVP -- one had an issue with sending the RSVP and thought she had and another did respond as well. So at 14 confirmed now. I may end up doing the buy and return deal if this keeps up though -- that's a good idea.
