Dandruff & Sensitive Scalp

I have developed a sensative scalp over the years. If I use comercial shampoos and conditioners for an extended period of time my scalp gets horribly ichy. Over the past couple of years with the new shampoo I'm using I have extreamly mild dandruff.

Then there is my H. He seems to of used every comercial dandruff product and nothing helps. His dandruff is still really bad but nothing like it used to be. He would be mortified if he knew I posted about this but he needs help. He is embarrassed every day that he has this problem (doesn't matter if no one notices or it isn't noticeable).

Is there any organic/ natural or make at home shampoos that will work wonders? I told him I would try to find something that would work and he is game.

Re: Dandruff & Sensitive Scalp

  • I found that my dandruff was helped dramatically by doing the no-poo method with ACV and baking soda. (You can google for the recipe and modify to your needs, I was doing a tablespoon of baking soda in an old shampoo container and the rest full of water and a couple tablespoons of ACV with several cups of water)  I think I was reacting to the harsh chemicals in the shampoos and products.  I still use a mild dandruff shampoo once every one to two weeks to cleanse my scalp a bit because I have REALLY thick hair and use no other shampoo in between... if I need more clarifying I use baking soda and vinegar.  But the natural oils in my hair seem to control the dry scalp and without leaving my hair greasy.  Maybe he can try something similar.  Good luck !!

I've started mixing baking soda in with my regular shampoo and it helps to reduce the itchiness of my scalp greatly! I also use baking soda on my face before I wash it, helps reduce the look of blackheads.

  • Thank you.

I told H and he asked if going no poo was less $$. Of course! Then when I told him about the vinegar part he looked at me funny.

I will have to try the baking soda on my face. Since I have an issue with blackheads.

  • have you tried something with Tea Tree Oil in it?  TTO is supposed to help with dandruff.
