Foundation recommendations

Any department store recommendations for foundations that do not settle into fine lines or emphasize them when smiling?  If I do not have foundation on, you cannot see any of my fine lines when I smile.  If I am wearing it (maybe it's just the wrong kind for me or the wrong application), you can see them.  My skin tone is hard to match, so I probably need something that comes in a wide range of shades.  I need something that will even out my skin tone.

Re: Foundation recommendations

  • I have heard great things about Makeup Forever HD. I've wanted to try it, just haven't gotten around to it yet! I know Sephora has it..

  • I have an oily-ish tzone, and am prone to drying out on my cheeks/ near my nose.

The MakeUp Forever HD was terrible on me- It made the dryness look even worse, and settled into all my lines after about 1/2 an hour. I tried applying it several different ways, with different combos of primers & moisturizers, and I just couldn't make it work for me.

What ended up being the best for me was Lancome's Tient Idole 24h. Great, build-able coverage, and it's pretty fool proof.

I HIGHLY recommend going to Sephora and bringing several samples home with you. You can find out what works for other people, but you won't know what works for you until you start trying them :)

  • I like Chanel's Vitalumier Aqua, it's very light weight and sink into the skin, I have no issues with it for my laugh lines or under eye wrinkles, when I do heavier make up like something from MAC, they become more visible.
  • Stop wearing foundation. I'm serious! The times I have gotten my make up done professionally, I have asked how I can apply foundation without it settling into fine lines (this was ALWAYS happening to me) and they all said the same thing..."do not apply foundation. Only use a dab of concealer where you need it" I have found using a good BB cream does the trick. It evens out skin tone and gives it a nice, dewy look. With a BB cream, the primer is already in the product, so you don't have to use any additional primer (which also helps foundation from settling in lines as well) I then like to dab a tiny bit of concealer under and around the eyes. I will dust a little bronzer or mineral veil over my face to set the makeup. Hope this helps! I think the key is to go very light on the powder/foundation and only use where you need it.
  • I love Bare Minerals.  I tried regular foundation for years and always hated it.  BM covers but doesn't make me feel like I"m wearing a lot of makeup.

Sephora carries the line and can match your skin tone - some malls actually have BM stores that carry their complete line.

  • I noticed one of the pp's mentioned not wearing foundation at all.  I think this is on the right track.  Switch to powder and see how it works for you.  I've heard a lot of good things about bare minerals and clinique carries a mineral foundation which people seem to like.  I wear dual finish from lancome. It's a pressed foundation powder you can wear wet or dry.  Don't be afraid to go to the counters and test out new products.  If you really want a liquid foundation get a sample and try it out for a few days and see how it works for you.  In all the pp's had a lot of great suggestions.
  • Primer under your foundation will help prevent it settling into lines. Even drugstore foundation will lay better over a primer.
