RCP: Romney's VP list down to four
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2012/07/05/romneys_vp_short_list_it_may_be_down_to_four_114698.html
Senator Rob Portman of Ohio
Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana
former governor Tim Pawlenty of Louisiana
Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin
*I would be excited if he picked Portman. Pawlenty's the ultimate "safe choice"---nice guy, no magic there. I love Paul Ryan but now's not his time because of the budget, which could hurt Romney in the key swing state of Florida. I hope Jindal is not picked; he doesn't complement Romney, and people don't want a primarily social conservative.

Re: RCP: Romney's VP list down to four
The women that I have heard about for VP are probably second or third tier. They will be considered but not make it into the final vetting in my opinion.
Kelly Ayotte----senator from New Hampshire
She endorsed Romney early, has tea party support, and seems intelligent and thoughtful on the issues. However, she is not seasoned enough.
Nikki Haley---governor of South Carolina, telegenic, interesting personality
Again, not enough seasoning and attracts controversy. The media would dredge up the old scandals about her having an affair (denied by her) and the kook in her state making fun of her Indian ancestry.
Cathy McMorris Rodgers---representative, good on budget
But if she's picked, why not the superior Paul Ryan?
Condi Rice---she has a great resume but is not interested
Romney would be foolish to pick a woman simply because a lazy media would try to fit her into the damaging Palin 2.0 template regardless of whether they have anything in common. There are very few conservative women on the political scene at this moment who are ready to be president on day one. While others look to Kay Bailey Hutchison or Olympia Snowe, I have to admit that any enthusiasm I have about the Romney campaign would sink to the floor. Talk about a choice that would kill turnout of the base, and I don't even think it'd appeal to swing voters because it would seem like pandering.
It would be in Romney's character to pick someone with executive experience like Pawlenty or business experience/moderate temperament like Portman. Anything else would be shocking.

"McCain was walking through the U.S. Capitol when he came upon the Ohio senator giving a tour to a group of interns. As he breezed by, McCain cracked to the interns that, ?Now you can say you interned for Vice President Portman.?
