Considering a move from NY
Hi!
My husband and I were both born & raised in Westchester, NY, but are considering a change. We have some family in the Burlington, NC area, and really enjoy the area when we visit, so we were considering relocating to the area to get away from the hustle and bustle of the very crowded and chaotic NY area.
Has anyone else made this move? Any advice?
What is the adjustment from busy NY life to laid back NC life?
Re: Considering a move from NY
Hmm...there is really nobody on this board, is there?
Ok, I'll bite, though I don't know how helpful I'll be - I'm not familiar with Burlington, though I've driven through that part of the state on my way home from the airport. (I live in Western NC.) It seems to me that the move there wouldn't be as much of a shock as if you were moving to some tiny rural town - the Burlington metro area is a decent size, and you're close enough to the Triangle that you could drive into the city on the weekends. It won't feel like New York, but it won't feel like the backwoods, either.
The other thing you might consider is how you'll feel adjusting to living in the South. I'm a transplanted Yankee, and there are definitely moments where I feel like a foreigner here. I've mostly found people friendly, though in my own pretty small town there is sometimes some clannishness that is difficult to break through. (That's pretty much true in small towns anywhere, though.)
Oh, and unless you live in the mountains, it gets pretty hot in the summer. :-)
What do you and your husband do? Would you be able to find work in Burlington?
