Passports

Does anyone know how long passports are taking to get back once you send in an initial application? We are going to Grand Cayman in Dec with DS (already has one) and DD (who will be 10 m) so we need to get DD a passport. The thing is we want to go to Canada for Labor Day weekend. I know that DD will not need a passport as her birth certificate will work. Just wanted to make sure that we will have enough time to get her passport for our trip to GC without having expedited.

I'm not 100% sure about the timing but I think it's like 4-6 weeks. Even if it takes a bit longer, I know that it won't take 5 months. But get it sooner rather than later.

We got our passports renewed and DS1 his back in January.  They were back within 2wks.  They say to allow 4-6wks, but it didn't take that long for us.  When you are at the post office applying, ask them the time frame to expect them.  They are usually pretty "in the know" about that.

4-6 weeks is what they say but hubby and I got ours back in about 3 weeks so you definitely have enough time!

We got one for DD back in February and it was back within 10 bus. days. I renewed mine and it was back in 14 days.

I'm pretty sure you can only use her Birth Certificate to cross into Canada if you are driving across the border. If you are flying she needs to have a passport. It shouldn't take any longer than four weeks to get it back but you might want to check the rules of entering Canada.

Mine and DHs took 3 weeks. Mine was a renewal/name change, his was first time passport. I mailed my app in, he did his through the county clerks office (same day I mailed mine). Ours both came together in the mail 3 weeks later. This was last month.
