Dog is limping, no signs of anything. Help
I noticed Pongo has been pretty lazy today, and then when I went to feed him he started limping. From the looks of it putting pressure on his back paw is really painful for him. I got him to let me look at it, and I can't see any blood or bruising. I also felt his leg, and if it is broken somehow it's a very tiny break. He doesn't yelp at the touch either, which I would expect him to.
I'm trying not to freak myself out, but I just can't think of what he could have done to hurt himself. He wasn't like this last night, so we haven't stepped on him by accident.
Any ideas? Or how to see what might be wrong? Thank y'all
Re: Dog is limping, no signs of anything. Help
It could be any number of issues. Your best bet is to take Pongo to your vet and see what's up. Something is wrong if he isn't wanting to use it.
The first summer we had our bluetick, Charlie, he increasingly paid attention to one of his back legs, licking it and then eventually hopping around and not wanting to walk on it. When we took him to the vet, it ended up being a partial tear in one of his tendons. It wasn't something we could see, and he would somewhat let me touch his leg, so it was hard to tell what was really wrong until we took him in.
Our Dalmatian, Bella, occasionally limps because she's gotten prickers/cactus in her paws, even after it comes out, she's sore. Same with hotspots. Also, if she goes to play and over does it, she'll limp for a few days. She's always been that way though. We know to wait a day or so, then if it doesn't get better, take her in.
If you feel uncomfortable, you should have Pongo checked out at the vet. Better to be safe than sorry.
We live in Florida, so he hasn't had any time lately outside other than walks. It sounds cruel, but between the concrete burning their pads, and heat strokes I'm too paranoid. Anyway, that's why I can't figure out how he could have hurt himself, and I made sure that neither my husband or I have stepped on him by accident or anything.
I'm gonna keep an eye on him today, and tomorrow morning so maybe it'll resolve itself and turn out to be nothing, but if not at least he has an appt.
