I have a 10 year old cockatiel that I need to find a good home for. DH and I have worked nights for the past few years, and having a chirping bird in the house during the day while we are trying to sleep isn't working out the best
I have been trying to put this off for awhile, because I don't want to have to get rid of the bird, but my DH is practically begging me to do so - and I see my DH's point, sadly.
I was planning on possibly listing him somewhere as a "giveaway," but he has a very large/nice cage (I think I paid about $300 or so for it) which I would want to go with him. The problem is that I don't want someone to take him just to get the cage for free and do who knows what with the bird.
He is also a crabby old bird, so I could see someone getting fed up with him - and who knows what would happen.
How do I go about screening people to find a good home for him? Would you list him as a giveaway, or ask for a certain amount of money just to avoid the "riff'raff"?
Also, does anyone know of any good sites that I could list him on? My DH says I shoud list him on www.rescueme.org ? Does anyone have any experience with this site?
Any help/advice would be appreciated!
Re: finding a good home for a bird...
Is there a bird rescue in your area? You can always call one for advice. They may know of people who will foster the bird or give it a good home.
I would charge for the bird and be upfront about any quirks he may have. That way there is a better chance of him going to a good home. Normally a person who knows what they are getting themselves into and willing will be better suited then someone who is uninformed.
Good luck.
Is there a chance that your schedule will revert to normal daytime hours in the next few years?
I'd hate to come up with a permanent solution for a possibly temporary problem.
