Decorating a Bedroom

Hi all! I have been married for almost 10 months, but I haven't really posted on here very much.

My husband and I are working on decorating our bedroom.  We finally found a lamp we both agreed on, but now we would like a smaller lamp on the other side of the bed.  We are not sure about what color the shade should be though. We have the lamp base, but not a shade.  You can see the base on the white bookshelf.

Our bedroom suit only came with 1 nightstand, so we have compromised by putting a small bookshelf on the other side of the bed.  Currently it is white, as you can see in the picture.  We do not know if we should leave it white or paint it.

I am open to any suggestions about the lamp or the bookshelf.  Thanks!

I can't post the pictures directly, so here is a link.

Re: Decorating a Bedroom

  • Go back and buy the second nightstand.  I know bed sets come with only 1 (I had to buy my second one, too), but I'll never understand why.  Sure, sure, people who despise matching furniture will scream at me, but I actually have my one formal bed set split up between two bedrooms (the fourposter queen bed is in the guest room; the dressers and nightstands are in our room).  That doesn't mean I don't want 2 matching nightstands!  I think mismatched night stands are very hard to pull off for the average homeowner.

Second, I think both lamps are too skinny.  You need something more substantial.  By way of example, PB has a good selection of chunkier lamps

  • I agree with you that I don't understand why they don't just sell 2 nightstands.  However, going back and purchasing the nightstand right now would be a little much.  Those things are at least $175 and that's just not possible right now.  That's why I have the bookshelf for the time being because I want something on my side of the bed.  I don't think the mismatched looks bad, I'm just not sure I love the white.

While I would have liked something with more substance, we couldn't find anything we liked that wasn't at least $75 a lamp besides this.  We also cannot afford to drop over $100 just for lamps.  I feel like we looked numerous places and, in my opinion, most of them were just too expensive.

I tend to like the skinnier look anyway.  I have decided I think the second lamp (with no shade) is too small, so I am returning it to find something else.
